Material

Italian Linen

Our fine fabrics in linen blend were made by Vitale Barberis Canonico, the oldest wool mill in the world, still run by his original family. Precisely, for our sartorial hat we selected a 55% natural linen and 45% wool blend. Thanks to the linen high capacity of absorbing moisture, and wool feature of performing a thermo-regulating function, our linen-wool blend makes our hat the ideal item for the Spring season. Our goal was to create a versatile, lightweight and breathable garment, able to release body heat and let in fresh air for a cooling effect, without ever losing the comfort, style and fit.

Cappellificio Biellese, Italy

The art of the hat-maker is an ancient, noble and rare profession, which has to be handed down over time, renewing it without ever losing its precious milestones.

Cappellificio Biellese‘s  ancient roots date back to 1935, a time when hats production was at its core, thanks to the main role hats played in both male and female wardrobes – all the more if we refer to the Biella Textile District.

After experiencing a hard time in the late 50’s, Cappellificio Biellese came back on top again thanks to Alberto Benigni that in 2014 decided to give a new chance to a company with a deep potentiality.

How To Take Care Of Your Linen Hat

Your Artknit Studios piece is far too precious not to care of in the right way.
If you follow a few simple steps to ensure its quality, it will be easy for you to make it last longer and happier.

THINGS TO KNOW

To know how to clean a linen hat properly, it is better to follow a number of easy but precise steps considering the natural origin of linen fabrics. Linen is obtained from the bark of the flax plant and it is highly appreciated for premium quality clothing, dressing with garments in natural fabrics remains an excellent choice, but also a luxury, given the difficulty in finding these materials. Despite being a resistant fibre, it is better to know some basic techniques in order to clean your linen piece in the proper way, without altering their luster and damaging the original fibre. This is even truer if it refers to a sartorial linen hat. Precisely, if it has to do with difficult stains.

HOW TO WASH IT

We suggest you to avoid washing your linen hat if possible, in order to deal with a longer durability. If this is not possible because of difficult stains, we suggest to wash it by hand and very seldom. Also, please consider the following points :

  1. Always use warm water
  2. Add very little detergent for delicate items
  3. After washing rinse the headgear very well, dab it with a sponge cloth and let it air dry
  4. To clean the lining strip it is recommended to use petrol to remove stains
  5. Put a couple of drops on a cotton cloth and rub the part vigorously, especially in the area of the forehead

Generally speaking, to properly wash a linen garment you can also use neutral soap, but you must avoid bleach because it would further yellow with the consequent corrosion of the fibres. If your linen items are dark or coloured and have been stained with wine or fruit, dab them with a salt and white vinegar compound and rinse them properly.

HOW TO DRY IT

Let the cloth hat dry in the open air, under the shade and keep it in its original form.

HOW TO STORE IT

The best way to store your linen hat is to use some paper to feel its folder, this will help to keep its shape, and always store clean linen hat in cool, dry places.

These general care instructions will help you make your linen hat last longer and better. If you require any other suggestions, or if you have any doubts, feel free to discover more about it on our Journal.
